BVHS students’ essays awarded
MANLIUS – Winners of the Bureau Valley High School Voice of Democracy competition are Conor Mooney, first place; Krista Naaktgeboren, second; and Emily Phillips, third. Mooney’s entry will go on to be judged in district competition.
The competition was sponsored by Wyanet Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6634 and its Ladies Auxiliary. Medals, $100, $75, and $50 savings bonds as well as gift certificates to the Wyanet VFW chicken fry for students and their families were awarded.
The contest is open to students nationwide, who compete for scholarships by writing and recording an essay on a patriotic theme. This year’s theme was “Is Our Constitution Still Relevant?” Several students who entered the competition also honored veterans during the annual BVHS Veterans Day ceremony at the high school.
