YWCA’s annual MLK celebration Sunday

Event offers art show, volunteer fair, readings

STERLING – The community is invited to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Sunday’s third annual Community Celebration of Peace and Justice at First Presbyterian Church.

The evening will open with a volunteer fair and a peace art show at 5 p.m., followed by a program at 6 p.m., at the church at 410 Second Ave.

The art show will include original works of art from community members on the subjects of King, peace and nonviolence.

The volunteer fair will include local groups looking to recruit community members to volunteer to help at their organizations and events.

The program will feature singers and readings “to help us reflect on Dr. King’s life and inspire us to make his dream our reality,” organizers said in a news release.

A community member who exemplifies King’s message and lives his dream will be honored.

Free refreshments will follow.

Admission is free.
