DIXON – The Phidian Art Club will sponsor its 66th annual art show April 9 at the Loveland Community House, 513W. Second St.
The show and reception are free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The judge’s critique and presentation of awards will begin at 7 p.m.
The Phidian Art Club was founded in 1890 to promote the arts in the form of visual art, literature, and music. The first Phidian Art Show was in 1947.
Awards are given in a variety of categories, including American and regional scenes, nature, creativity, realistic style, multicultural, best landscape ,and “Reflections of the Past.” All awards are monetary prizes. The club will award more than $3,500 in prizes donated by local businesses and individuals; many are memorial awards. It is through their support that the art show continues.
There will be a two-class entry system. Class II is for emerging artists who have not previously won a first place Class II Phidian Award. Class I is open to all artists. Previous Class II first-place award winners must enter Class I. All others have the option of entering in either Class I or Class II.
Artwork must be original paintings or drawings, not produced under the direction of an instructor, no more than 5 years old, not previously entered in the show, ready for hanging by wire, no more than 48 inches wide, not exceeding 25 pounds, and suitable for family viewing.
The artist must live within 35 driving miles of Dixon and be 17 or older. No 3-dimensional work, crafts, photography, or sculpture will be accepted. The entry fee is $10 per painting with a two-piece limit.
Artwork will be accepted from 2 to 6 p.m. April 4 and 2 to 6 p.m. April 5 at the community house.
