OREGON – Oregon High School senior Kathryn Speck has been honored for her volunteer work with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant time to serve their communities and their country. It was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Service Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama.

Speck, 18, participated in the Spirit of Community program this year as a representative of Oregon High School.

The school nominated her for the award.

“Katy is a one-of-a-kind student who makes Oregon High School and the Oregon community a better place simply because of her presence,” Oregon Principal P.J. Caposey said.

Speck has completed more than 400 hours of community service.
