Snow removal on sidewalks is a team effort
I am writing to address a serious safety issue in our community – the clearing of public walkways and sidewalks. I believe it takes a team effort from all our property owners, residential and commercial, to clear the sidewalks of snow after a storm.
Clearing sidewalks after snowstorms helps to ensure the safety and mobility of the entire Dixon community. This is not happening, and there currently is not a city ordinance to deal with this dangerous situation. This especially holds true for senior citizens, school-aged children, and persons with disabilities.
Uncleared sidewalks pose a real danger and can be life-threatening to pedestrians. When the sidewalks are not clear of snow or ice, pedestrians may injure themselves on the slick sidewalk or be forced to walk in the roadway with vehicular traffic.
This is a public safety issue that needs to be addressed, and won’t be changed unless people join forces and encourage a new city ordinance.
Thank you for your time and support.
