Katherine Palmer

FREEPORT – Katherine Palmer of Freeport, formerly of Dixon, died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center in Freeport.

Katherine was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Chicago, to William and Constance (Sarantakis) Bistolas. She graduated from Marshall High School in Chicago in 1940. She and John Palmer were married on Aug. 16, 1952.  

Katherine loved reading and listening to opera. During World War II, she served her country as a civilian repairing altimeters.

She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Palmer of Freeport and Connie Palmer (John Newsham) of St. Louis; and granddaughter, Emily (Zachary) Muscato and great-granddaughter, Madeline Rose Muscato, both of St. Louis.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, and six brothers.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Per Katherine’s wish, there will not be a funeral service. Walker Mortuary in Freeport is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established in her name at the Highland Community College Foundation.
