Simeon’s Nunn in dunk contest April 6
Simeon senior Kendrick Nunn was selected to participate in the American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk Championships on April 6.
The 6-foot-2 Illinois-bound guard was second in scoring with 14.8 points per game this season while helping the Wolverines to their fourth consecutive Class 4A state title.
Forbes: Cubs most profitable team
According to Forbes’ annual valuation, the Chicago Cubs are the fourth-most valuable franchise in the major leagues at $1 billion.
Forbes also estimates the Cubs had an operating income of $32.1 million last year, making them the most profitable team in baseball.
Cubs claim reliever Moscoso off waivers
The Cubs claimed right-hander Guillermo Moscoso off waivers from Toronto on Wednesday and moved Arodys Vizcaino to the 60-day disabled list.
Moscoso, 29, is 11-12 with a 4.16 ERA in 57 appearances for three teams, including 24 starts.
Ramirez day-to-day with shoulder bruise
Chicago White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez was hit near the right shoulder from a pitch by Cleveland pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on Wednesday.
Ramirez was diagnosed with a right shoulder bruise and listed as day-to-day.
VCU extends Smart through 2023
Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart agreed on Wednesday to an extension to remain with the Rams through 2023.
Smart, 35, has coached at VCU since 2009 and made the Final Four in 2011. This year, the Rams finished 27-9, but lost a third-round NCAA Tournament game to Michigan.
Lakers lose World Peace for 6 weeks
The Los Angeles Lakers will lose Metta World Peace for at least 6 weeks when he undergoes surgery today to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.
World Peace apparently injured his knee slipping on a wet spot at Oracle Arena in the Lakers’ 109-103 loss Monday to Golden State.
