Consolidation forum Wednesday at East Coloma

Published: Tuesday, April 2, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

ROCK FALLS – Voters who want information about the proposed consolidation of the Nelson and East Coloma school districts can get their questions answered at a forum at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The districts are pursuing consolidation to form what they hope will be a new, educationally robust and financially stable school district. Officials are asking voters to support the merger.

Officials argue that students from both schools could reap the benefits of smaller class sizes, more individualized instruction, and expanded programs and class offerings. They also argue teachers in both districts could collaborate and develop curriculum together, offer intervention programs and elective classes, and better monitor student progress.

The forum will be held in the gym at East Coloma School, 1602 Dixon Road. Call 815-625-4400 for more information.
