DIXON – The Riverfront Commission is asking for an item to be placed on the City Council's May 5 agenda offering Executive Director Kay Miller a $600 a month salary.
Miller's contract remains unsettled 5 months after the City Council voted 4-1 against a contract that would have given her $800 a month.
The proposal was put on the April 14 agenda, then removed, because commissioners wanted to discuss the issue in executive session before taking a vote, Mayor Jim Burke said.
In November, commissioners questioned whether Miller generated enough revenue for the Riverfront to justify a raise from $200 to $800 a month. Commissioner Dave Blackburn said the "information was lacking" and Commissioner Jeff Kuhn wanted the Riverfront to consider a consolidation of services with either Dixon Main Street or Dixon Tourism.
One meeting was held on a possible consolidation, but no action was taken.
Miller, who has been working without a contract, works 5 to 6 hours a day on average, she said.
The contract situation has been confusing for her and residents communicating with the Riverfront, she said. "Some people aren't sure if they are still supposed to talk to me, because I don't have a contract."
Miller has been paid $200 a month for the past year, but until late last year, she was paid $1,000 a month. Commission President Larry Reed said the Riverfront is not looking at the salary proposal as an increase, but a decrease from the $1,000 she used to receive.
Two people have expressed interest in doing the executive manager job on a volunteer basis, while a former volunteer told Sauk Valley Media the position can be handled by a volunteer.
Riverfront officials have expressed no interest in that at this time.
