Normal police rescue 8 ducklings from sewer

NORMAL (AP) — Normal police officers have saved eight ducklings from a storm sewer.

The rescue happened early Thursday evening when pedestrians saw two distraught ducks near a storm drain. The Pantagraph in Bloomington reports (http://bit.ly/14ggB7s) that the pedestrians called police when they heard peeping from a manhole cover. Police asked McLean County Animal Control for a net to get the ducklings.

Officer Mitchell Wilson climbed into the storm sewer and coaxed the ducklings into the net. Officer Melissa Zabukovec took the ducklings to a farm field and released them. Their parents, the two anxious ducks, flew in. The duck family headed to a nearby pond.

Wilson calls it "a happy ending."
