Charles J. 'Charlie' Martens

ERIE – Charles J. “Charlie” Martens, 65, of Erie, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his home. He worked at the East Moline Correctional Center, retiring as a sergeant.

Charlie was born Jan. 4, 1948, in Moline, the son of Albert and Dorcas (Prins) Martens. He married Beverly R. Allen on May 1, 1971, in Prophetstown.

Survivors include his mother, Dorcas Cole of Erie; children, Mark (Kimberly) Martens and Melissa (Jim) Farley, both of Morrison; siblings, Jerry (Carla) Martens of Erie, Helen (Ron) Null of Morrison, and Richard (Janice) Martens of Erie; grandchildren, Justin Erik Wiersema and Mariska Leigh Martens.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert, and his wife, Beverly, in 2011.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Erie. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Erie Ambulance Service.
