This is an open letter to Mr. Ketchum. On April 24, the Lee County Zoning Board, after 80 hours and several months of meetings, voted to reject Mainstream Renewable Power’s plan for 53 proposed wind turbines.
The very next morning, you quickly responded, according to the Telegraph, that you would “certainly” vote to override the zoning board.
It was very disappointing to read that you, especially in your leadership role, would so abruptly deny the zoning board’s recommendation. Did you even read it and study it thoroughly?
Obviously, this panel of men spent a great deal of time and energy learning all that they could about the multitude of issues involved. They listened, not only to well-known experts, but to individuals who represented both pro and con opinions.
It was a difficult, time-consuming task, and they took it seriously.
I thank all of you who serve on the Lee County Zoning Board. In particular, I extend a very special, heartfelt thanks to Mr. Tom Fassler, Mr. Allyn Buhrow, and Mr. Mike Pratt. They realized and understood that, as zoning board members, they are assigned and commissioned to protect the health and welfare of the citizens of Lee County as well as the environment, and care and quality of the soil and water of Lee County.
Hopefully, all Lee County Board members will study the zoning board Finding of Facts report and will agree with the zoning board’s recommendation to refuse Mainstream Renewable Power’s proposal for 53 turbines
It is very important that all County Board members learn and know the true facts, think for yourselves, and make up your own minds. After all, that is the reason we elected you in the first place.
