Rockets clinch share of BNC West crown
Eddie Nelson not only pitched a complete game Thursday, but also played one, as the Rock Falls Rockets clinched at least a share of the Big Northern West title with an 18-3 victory in Oregon.
Nelson (4-2) struck out four and walked five on the mound, and he helped his own cause with a home run and three RBIs at the plate.
Dusitn Huycke drove in four runs for the Rockets (16-7, 9-2), and Austin Donoho added three RBIs. Rock Falls scored in every inning, highlighted by an 11-run fourth.
Alex Cain homered and had two RBIs for the Hawks (8-14, 4-7). Joey Rowe took the loss, allowing 13 runs – seven earned – on nine hits in
3 2/3 innings.

6 inn.: John Thomas had a rough game on the mound, but collected the Dukes’ lone RBI in a NIB- 12 West loss at home.
Thomas allowed 10 runs – eight earned – on seven hits in four innings. He struck out three and walked three for the Dukes (7-19, 3-11).
Ottawa 10, Sterling 7, 9 inn.: The Golden Warriors took the NIB-12 West leaders to extra innings at Gartner Park.
Princeton 17, Newman 7, 5 inn.: Dillan Heffelfinger and Colin McGinn each had two hits and an RBI in a run-rule road loss.
Kyle Moore and Matt Wagenecht also drove in runs for the Comets. Heffelfinger took the loss.
Raiders sweep Broncos:
AFC picked up a pair NUIC East wins by beating Orangeville 8-4 and 7-3 in Ashton. The second game was called after five innings because of rain.
Andrew LeFevre had six hits and three RBIs.
Paul Rod earned the win in Game 1, allowing three runs and two hits. Tyler Shugars and Blake Murphy each had two RBIs.
Graye Freeman had the win in Game 2, allowing two hits while striking out six.
Eastland 11, Stockton-Warren 3: Ramsay Truckenmiller picked up an NUIC West win for the Cougars (11-6, 7-4), who bounced back after Wednesday’s 18-11 loss to East Dubuque.
West Carroll 10, East Dubuque 3: Tyler Westerman drove in three runs as Thunder earned a NUIC West win in Thomson.
Trevor Jones struck out 11 while allowing six hits and only one earned run in 6 2/3 innings.
