MLB roundup: Power, Peavy propel Sox past Twins
Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo homered to back another strong start from Jake Peavy and lead the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Twins on Tuesday night in Minneapolis.
Peavy (5-1) gave up two runs and five hits with six strikeouts in seven innings, and Tyler Flowers’ single in the eighth scored the go-ahead run. Addison Reed picked up his 12th save.
Dunn, who entered the game hitting a league-worst .133, and Viciedo got the Sox off to a roaring start with nearly 1,000 feet of home runs in the second inning.
Rockies 9, Cubs 4: Carlos Gonzalez homered twice and finished with a career-high five hits to lead struggling Colorado in Chicago.
Carlos Villanueva (1-3) allowed six runs and 12 hits in five innings for the Cubs.
Cardinals 10, Mets 4: Carlos Beltran drove in four runs, and rookie left-hander John Gast picked up a win in his major league debut in St. Louis.
Gast (1-0) tossed five shutout innings before giving up four runs in the sixth. He surrendered six hits, struck out three and walked one.
