New Morrison restaurant to serve comfort foods

MORRISON – A restaurant that will serve homestyle food is opening in Morrison.

Nana's Cafe will replace Mary's Restaurant. Owner Paula Munther hopes to open June 20.

Munther, 50, and her husband, Michael Munther, 51, bought the building at 619 E. Lincolnway on Thursday. They live in rural Morrison.

Nana's will serve that staple of the Sauk Valley: chicken George. Other comfort foods such as fried fish and meatloaf also will be available, as will homemade casseroles, soups, chicken salad, egg salad, wraps, biscuits and gravy, french fries and mashed potatoes.

Omelettes will be served with a choice of five cheeses. The cafe, named after the term of affection her eight grandchildren use for her, also will serve homemade cakes and pies.

It will be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily in the warm months and from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the winter.
