Concert set for July 19 in Page Park

YMCA, Park District to help

DIXON – Project GenNex, a group trying to establish a youth center, is hosting its first event July 19: a teen concert in Page Park.

While many of the details still are being worked out, he hopes to have five or six bands perform, said Steve Wilson, building manager at Loveland Community House & Museum, who has taken the lead for Project GenNex.

The Dixon YMCA will help sponsor and promote the event, said Andrew McFarlane, chief executive officer there.

The Dixon Park District will provide garbage cans and picnic tables, and Wilson will ask restaurants to put together concessions to sell as a Project GenNex fundraiser.

Adult volunteers are needed to supervise the concert; call Wilson at 815-284-2741.

A “back to school” party or dance has been suggested for a possible event in August.

Wilson will ask Dixon churches, social organizations and small businesses for a $25 donation to give the group some money to work with as it gets off the ground. Project GenNex also is working toward gaining nonprofit status and acquiring grants, he said.

To attend

Project GenNex will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Loveland Community House & Museum, 513 W. Second St.
