Panel to meet with council Wednesday
DIXON – The city’s governmental task force has gained an understanding of other governments; now it will examine its own.
The task force will meet Wednesday with Dixon commissioners and the mayor. The seven-member panel is charged with recommending the best form of government for Dixon, in the wake of the Rita Crundwell scandal.
Members hope to have their minds made up by August and start working toward a recommendation.
Wednesday’s meeting is for task force members to ask the City Council whether it has recommendations or concerns of its own about the process.
Commissioners have not sat in on a meeting since the first one on May 1, when Mayor Jim Burke and Commissioner Dennis Considine were present.
They say they have done so to give the group its independence, but the panel said it will be important to listen to concerns commissioners might have.
When it’s time for the task force to make a recommendation, it does not want commissioners to flag problems with the study or discount it.
Task force members also will be able to ask questions about how the city’s current commission form of government works.
