M. Bernice Seavey

OREGON – M. Bernice Seavey, 100, of Sterling, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.

Bernice was born June 1, 1913, in Sterling, the daughter of Earl and Mayme (Lyndes) Martin. She married Jay E. Seavey on Jan. 22, 1936, in Sterling. Bernice was a dedicated mother and homemaker as Jay took care of the farm. He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2007. Bernice was a member of East Jordan United Methodist Church in Sterling. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who shared her life with all. She was an active member of East Jordan Church, where her unselfish giving was experienced by all. Bernice was active in many charitable organizations through the years, and found a great joy in serving her Lord.

Survivors include a son, Ellis Seavey of McGregor, Iowa; one daughter, Karen Stalter of Eureka; a son, Stanley (Connie) Seavey of Franklin Grove; two sisters, Lucille Dodd of Clinton, Iowa, and Evelyn Smith of Sterling; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kary Stalter.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at East Jordan United Methodist Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Dave Jungnickel, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be at Prairieville Cemetery on Mound Hill Road near Dixon. Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

Memorials have been established to East Jordan United Methodist Church and PADS Homeless Shelter.
