End of the Trail Days

DIXON – Reagan Trails Days wraps up this weekend.

The annual Ronald Reagan Gala in the Park, this year joined by the annual wine tasting-reception, will be from 6 to 10 tonight at the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home, 816 S. Hennepin Ave. Tickets are $35.

The Alzheimer’s Association's annual duck race on the Rock River begins at 10 a.m. Saturday. Sponsor a duck for $5; call 815-285-1100. Kid’s Day at the Reagan Home runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the new Beanblossom Music Festival follows from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the parking lot at 106 W. River St.

Touch a Truck

ROCK FALLS – The Optimist Club of Rock Falls' third annual Touch a Truck Day will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rock Falls Riverfront Patio, Second Street and Avenue A.

Vehicles from a variety of area agencies and groups, including Rock Falls and Sterling police and fire departments, Whiteside County Sheriff's Department, the National Guard and the U.S. Postal Service, will be on hand, as will a CGH Medical Center ambulance, and an OSF Life Flight helicopter.

Firehouse Ministries will provide free truck rides and games, and Red Carpet Limo will give free limousine rides. Happy Tails Animal Shelter will have an adoption booth. Proceeds from sales of hot dogs, pork chop sandwiches, and Selmi's sweet corn will go to local Optimist youth programs.

Ice cream at the Manahan

STERLING – The Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society invites the community to a pie and ice cream social from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lincoln Manahan Home Museum and its soon-to-be-Lincoln Learning Center, 607 E. Third St.

Visitors can meet Matt Berge, the architect who's helping with the learning center remodel, and enjoy music by the String-A-Longs dulcimer band. Tours of the home will be available.

Second Saturdays in Dixon

DIXON – Second Saturdays Art Happenings, featuring art, music and other cultural events, returns to various venues, mostly from 6 to 8 p.m. downtown, between First and Second streets and Peoria and Galena avenues.

Cars, trucks, tractors and a swap meet

POLO – The 24th annual Polo Car, Truck, and Tractor Show will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday along Mason Street.

Cost to register a vehicle is $12; there is no fee to show tractors. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon; awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Admission is free to spectators.

There also will be a swap meet of automotive, motorcycle, tractor, and high-performance parts, and an outdoors corral for vehicles for sale. Music will be provided by 3-D Sound, Professor Trivia will ask questions, and there will be a muffler rapping contest and a 50/50 drawing.
