SPRINGFIELD (AP) – Illinois House Republicans will gather later this week to choose a new leader of their caucus.

The Thursday meeting at the Statehouse Inn in Springfield follows House Republican Leader Tom Cross’s announcement last week that he is stepping down from his post to run for treasurer.

Republican state Reps. Jim Durkin and Raymond Poe both are seeking to succeed Cross.
