Well, if one thing is clear from the special Dixon City Council meeting on Aug. 29, the council needs to adopt a motion to put the referendum about the city manager form of government on the 2014 ballot sooner than later.
The council is not wrestling with the decision of what form of government we adopt; we have more than a year to do that. They are simply recognizing the rightful authority of the people as a whole to make this decision.
As citizens of Dixon, they, too, will have their say on the referendum, and as their positions as the leaders of the city, they will have a bigger outlet to express their views than the average citizen.
To the mayor and council, I say, restore some of your credibility today and put this issue to the ballot in 2014. To the governmental task force, I say, thank you, and it has been a pleasure attending your meetings.
