Eminem’s daughter crowned high school homecoming queen

DETROIT – Eminem’s daughter was crowned homecoming queen as the rap star watched at Chippewa Valley High School on Friday.

Hailie Scott, a senior honors student, was proclaimed queen at the school’s football game in Clinton Township, Mich., with king Tyler Knepp, 18, an aspiring musician.

“To me, she’s just another normal person,” Knepp said Monday. “She’s trying to live a normal life.”

Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education President Denise Aquino said Monday that Hailie’s mom, Kim Scott, escorted her daughter onto the football field during the crowning. Eminem watched from inside a building in an administrator’s office off the cafeteria.

“The staff worked directly with him in order to allow his privacy,” Aquino said. “He wanted it to be her moment, and they just assisted him in making that happen. He was looking out when she was announced queen. I’m happy for them, that she was allowed to have her moment.”

She said Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, has always been conscious of his daughter’s privacy since Hailie began at Cherokee Elementary.

He arrived at Friday’s game, as always, with-out any extra security or fanfare.

“I think he has separated his fame from being a parent,” said Aquino, who has been on the school board for 17 years. “I think he’s separated his career and what he may have gone through in his life, and raising a good daughter. I think it’s very, very important to him, and he’s done a good job.”

She said the district educates about 16,600 students from Macomb and Clinton townships.

Knepp, who writes music, sings and plays guitar in the pop-rock band Escape Plan with three other Chippewa Valley students and one graduate, was hesitant to discuss the queen.

“I would imagine her parents are just as excited and proud as my parents were for me,” Knepp said.
