Business Notebook: Scholl is Citizen of the Year in Polo
POLO – Mark Scholl, a partner with Wipfli LLP’s Sterling office, recently received the Polo Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 Citizen of the Year Award.
Winners are selected for “strengthening the community through their contributions, characteristics, accomplishments, and by their positive representation of Polo.
Scholl was mayor of Polo from 2009 to 2013, an alderman from 2001 to 2009, and a member of Polo Lions Club, Polo Historical Society and Polo Economic Development Committee. Recently, Scholl led a $75,000 fundraising campaign for Polo’s bathhouse renovation. More than $77,000 was raised for the project.
“We are extremely blessed to have superior associates in our office in terms of their contributions to the firm, their communities and families,” Douglas Fitzgerald, a partner in Wipfli’s Sterling office, said in a news release.
Local business needs your vote
MORRISON – A Morrison business needs your vote in its quest to win a Mission Main Street Grant from Chase Bank. The City Rebar, a rebar estimating and detailing company, started in 1992, and incorporated in 1988, has applied for the grant. The company has 20 employees and is looking to get bigger.
Through the $3 million program, grants of $250,000 will be awarded to 12 small businesses for growth projects. To cast a vote, go to www.missionmainstreetgrants.com and search for the business by name, The City Rebar, or by Morrison’s ZIP code, 61270. In order to vote, you will be asked to log in with your Facebook account.
Businesses must receive at least 250 votes by Nov. 15 to be eligible for a Chase grant. At last count, The City Rebar had 133 votes.
