Published: Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 12:22 a.m. CST

(Continued from Page 1)

3A Princeton

When: Tuesday, Thursday

Where: Princeton H.S.

Teams: Dunlap (13-18), LaSalle-Peru (31-3), Sterling (26-7), Sycamore (16-17)

Advancement: Winner advances to Washington Supersectional vs. Champaign Centennial Secitonal winner, 6:30 p.m. Saturday

Players to watch: Kiarra Harris, Sterling; Mattie Hayes, Sycamore; Rachel Hunt, LaSalle-Peru; Jenee Carlson, Sycamore; Kaylee Martin, Sterling; Kennedy Netters, Dunlap; Katie Olson, LaSalle-Peru

Favorite: LaSalle-Peru

Darkhorse: Sycamore

Outlook: On paper, it looks like the winner of Tuesday's semifinal match between Sterling and LaSalle-Peru will be the heavy favorites to win the sectional. Sycamore won its regional after being the No. 3 seed by beating Rock Falls and top-seeded Kaneland. The Spartans aren't a team to overlook. The Cavs and Warriors met twice during the regular season, with LaSalle-Peru winning both matches in three sets.

SVM prediction: Sterling

2A Farmington

When: Tuesday, Thursday

Where: Farmington H.S.

Teams: Abingdon-Avon (20-10), Fulton (13-17), Orion (29-7), Stark County (20-10-3)

Advancement: Winner advances to Bureau Valley Supersectional vs. El Paso-Gridley Sectional winner, 7 p.m. Saturday

Players to watch: Rachael Beiermann, Fulton; Katie Conway, Orion; Taylor Cudd, Abingdon-Avon; Liz Hippen, Stark County; Chelsea Lesniewski, Fulton; Madi Paxson, Stark County; Madi Schulenberg, Orion; Becca Stipp, Abingdon-Avon

Favorite: Orion

Darkhorse: Fulton

Outlook: The Steamers have plenty of talent, and seem to be pushing in the right direction at the right time. They'll be the underdogs at this sectional, but that also makes them dangerous. Orion has been the most consistent team at this sectional and are the favorites to walk away with the title.

SVM prediction: Orion

2A South Beloit

When: Tuesday, Thursday

Where: South Beloit H.S.

Teams: Christian Liberty Academy (24-11), Dakota (37-0), IC Catholic, Oregon (28-9-1)

Advancement: Winner advances to Lisle Supersectional vs. Marine Military Academy Sectional winner, 6 p.m. Saturday

Players to watch: Vivian Barclay, Christian Liberty Academy; Jaycee Cleaver, Dakota; Shannon Cullen, Oregon; Delaney D'Amore, IC Catholic; Delaney Mahoney, Oregon; Kim Martino, IC Catholic; Cassie Swiderek, Christian Liberty Academy; Sarah Thompson, Dakota

Favorite: Dakota

Darkhorse: Oregon

Outlook: It seems very likely that the Oregon Hawks and Dakota Indians could meet for the second year in a row for a sectional championship. The bad news for the Hawks is that Sarah Thompson is back, and is trying to lead the Indians to the state tournament for the third straight season.

SVM prediction: Dakota

1A Pearl City

When: Tuesday, Thurday

Where: Pearl City H.S.

Teams: Erie (28-7-1), Keith Country Day, Newman (21-13), Stockton (27-5-1)

Advancement: Winner advances to Westminster Christian Supersectional vs. Harvest Christian Sectional winner, 6 p.m. Saturday

Players to watch: Rachel Cobert, Erie; Kayci Howell, Newman; Adeja Lambert, Keith; Iman McGary, Keith; Savannah Mettler, Erie; Megan Rosengren, Newman; Kara Wright, Stockton; Kara Wright, Stockton

Favorite: Keith Country Day

Darkhorse: Erie

Outlook: Stockton and Keith Country Day met last year in the sectional championship match. The Blackhawks are looking for their first sectional championship in program history. Keith is the defending 1A state champs and return the bulk of their players from that squad. Newman and Erie fought all season for the Three Rivers North crown and will both need to play exceptionally to win here.

SVM prediction: Keith Country Day
