Firefighters very helpful

Published: Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 1:15 a.m. CDT

I would like to thank the firefighters who assisted with an accident on First Avenue on Christmas Day.

My son was the unfortunate motorist traveling north on First Avenue, when a stop sign on 11th Street was “missed.” When I arrived, I was motioned (not by the firefighters) by someone pointing to the ambulance and was told, “He’s in there.” After he was released by the ambulance paramedics, we went to the vehicle.

The firefighters immediately came to our assistance and started to unload the vehicle because it was not drivable. They told my son to go sit in my car to get warm and relax from the shake-up, and they would get the car unloaded.

They unloaded everything into my car, from the luggage to all the paperwork he needed because it was a rental, and they even double-checked to make sure everything was out. Awesome men. They didn’t have to do that.

In the past few years, there has been much talk of having to reduce the department. I personally hope that never happens. They do so much more than fight fires. All other personnel offered no assistance.
