LEE COUNTY – A Granville woman was injured Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 39.

State police responded to the accident at 11:18 p.m. After an investigation, they found that a state Department of Transportation snowplow driven by William R. Bollman, 54, of Dixon, was northbound on Interstate 39 in the right-hand lane, spreading salt due to recent snowfall. The plow was traveling about 32 mph with flashing amber lights activated.

A car driven by Gail M. Yocum, 61, of Granville, was northbound in the right-hand lane, approaching the plow when Yocum tried to slow down. She was unable to avoid a collision, and her car struck the rear of the snowplow. Yocum’s car then ran off the right side of the road and into the ditch, then back onto the roadway, coming to final rest in the left lane.

Yocum was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital by Shabbona-Lee Fire/EMS, and her condition was unavailable Monday. Bollman was unhurt in the accident. Yocum was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at 7:48 p.m. A vehicle driven by James Petrowitz, 51, of Elroy, Wis., was southbound on Cavanaugh Road when Petrowitz fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle. Petrowitz’s vehicle then entered the east ditch of the roadway and struck the edge of the guardrail, continuing down a small hill a short distance east of the roadway. The vehicle then appeared to roll over about three times before coming to rest.

Petrowitz was taken to KSB Hospital in Dixon by Polo EMS and Fire. His condition was unavailable Monday.
