MOUNT MORRIS – Registration is open until July 1 for Pinecrest Community’s third annual pie baking contest and auction to be from 2 to 4 p.m. July 5 at Pinecrest Grove Community Center, 500 Evergreen Drive.

Participants bake two identical pies. Pies requiring refrigeration are not eligible. Visit or call Amy at 815-734-4103 for registration forms within rules.

Entrants will have a chance to win one of several cash prizes in the adult or child categories. Adults, 18 and older, can win $500 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Children 17 and younger can win $100 for first, $75 for second, and $25 for third. Chris Miller of Sierra Vista, Arizona, donated the prize money.

Winners will be announced at 2 p.m., and slices of pie will be sold for $3 per slice. A live pie auction will be at 3 p.m., and a new feature this year will be a basket auction.

All proceeds will benefit the Good Samaritan Fund, which helps cover the cost of care for residents who have outlived their financial resources.
